SOAPSTONE

Speaker: Chris Mcdougall, the author of "Born to Run"

Occasion: The visit to the Copper Canyons in Mexico, where the Taramuhara Indians live in seclusion. He also travels to the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Race, an ultramarathon run in Colorado that challenges even the best of long-distance runners.

Audience: The reader, whom Mcdougall is trying to pursuade to realize that they are "Running People" and need to become the long-distance runners that they were born to be.

Purpose: To convince people to run and realize that the Taramuhara are the last remnants of what humans were evolved to be. His message is that we are all "The Runnning People"

TONE: The tone is urgent and hopeful at the same time. McDougall wants people to help save the Taramuhara and to become long-distance runners, which will lead to healthier lives.
